A ‘mouse vet’ is not just a vet

The year 2011 was World Veterinary Year, celebrating the 250th anniversary of the establishment of the first veterinary school in Lyon (France) by Claude Bourgelat. Perhaps because of his close collaboration with surgeons, he was the first scientist to state that by studying animal pathology and biology, one would better understand man. The ‘one health’ concept was born, as well as that of comparative medicine.
